Artist of the Outback Creative - Kate Rutter

Who are your Influences?

The Australian bush, farming, my Grandfather, country larrikins, animals & yarns of days gone by are my influences. I spent a lot of time reading Footrot Flats comics as a kid so that's also an influence. Preserving that old county humor.

Where in Australian do you find is your best source of inspiration?

Just being at home on the farm is my inspiration & visiting my family farm where I grew up (20mins down the road) sparks my memory bank.

What makes you start to create a piece and how do you know when you are finished?

I'm usually driving or trying to sleep when i think of a good scenario to create a cartoon. From there I jot it down in notes on my iPhone ready for when I get time to start on it. I know its finished when I'm happy with the colour's, the cartoon is finalised first then I add colour.

Its all good till unbeknownist you lose your pilot - SOLD

Do you have an artwork you are most proud of and why?

I'm most proud of the cartoons drawn for the Crackup Sisters trailer that travels with them around Australia.

Time for a Dip - SOLD

What is your most important artist tool?

Is there something you can’t live without? I love my Wacom drawing tablet for my digital work & my Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils for my original drawings.

Then my boots knocked my hat off - SOLD

What would you like to achieve out of your art?

Where do you see yourself in a couple of years? To create cartoons that might make people happy or remind them of a great memory is what id like to achieve. I see myself in a couple of years bettering my digital cartooning skills & hopefully creating some memorable cartoons.
